Young girl she sighs Tears crystal eyes Look at the things they do Because my eyes are blue Can’t understand The heavy hand Look at the things they do Because my eyes are blue She can see The people we should be And what we all should do If we could see How little colour means Or if our eyes were If our eyes were blue She sees the lies The greed behind Look at the things they do Because my eyes are blue Can’t find the words She goes unheard Look at the things they do Because my eyes are blue

Othering 03:22
I’ve been hearing all your tweets They resonate around the island You say how great it’s going to be But not for those who seek asylum And all your words are on repeat We listen to your one-way street Your shiny megaphone is trying to drown it out but We want the truth We’re not going to be Part of your othering You tell your lies and you build divide You spin a web of fear you hide behind You keep us fighting so we stay in line Othering Way above you there are richer men And maybe they don’t look so friendly But they’ve got their skills in puppetry And making sure they write the ending And all your words are on repeat We listen to your one-way street Your shiny megaphone is trying to drown it out but We want the truth We’re not going to be Part of your othering You tell your lies and you build divide You spin a web of fear you hide behind You keep us fighting so we stay in line Othering Give me your tired your poor Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free The wretched refuse of your teeming shore Send these the homeless tempest-tost to me I lift my lamp beside the golden door Excerpt from The New Colossus by Emma Lazarus (1849–87)

Round and round And round and round Everything is out of place Coming in and out of phase Going back to the beginning Doesn’t stop my head from spinning Round and round And round and round Try to fly but find I’m falling Try to run but find I’m crawling Close my eyes and stop my breathing Doesn’t stop the world from spinning Round and round And round and round It seems to me you’re not saying anything Anything that doesn’t muddle or confuse me Your lips move but your words keep going Round and round and round in my head It seems to me you’re not saying anything Anything that doesn’t damage or confuse me Your lips move but your words keep going Round and round and round in my head It’s just words and words and lies and words And lies and promises and lies It’s just words and words and lies and words Promises and lies going round in my head Words and words and words and lies And words and lies and promises and lies Going round in my head Round and round Round and round and…

Where the days go slow but the weeks go fast Life blinks through I’m trying to make it last I know I’ve got to stay at home But hell this is a featureless zone They say time flies when you’re having fun I say time slows when you’re on the run When shiny newness hangs in the air And you live outside and everywhere I think I’ve seen time bend before Day one long days two to four So normal and then week two Just crushed down to a neutral glue And now I look down at my screen Lucky to work and then watch TV Tomorrow I guess I’ll do the same Do I even know the day’s name? Where the days go slow but the weeks go fast Life blinks through I’m trying to make it last I know I’ve got to stay at home But hell this is a featureless zone

Turning turning turning Turning turning turning Turning turning turning I am turning… How am I gonna make my stand When I’m caught in my finance plan How am I gonna get away To get to work I've gotta pay Mm hmm I’m turning the wheel Yes I’m turning the wheel I’m standing still And I’m turning the wheel So I bought a shiny car Did it get me very far? I’m sitting still in the smoky lines The radio sells changing tired minds Mm hmm I’m turning the wheel Yes I’m turning the wheel I’m standing still And I’m turning the wheel I’m turning the wheel Yes I’m turning the wheel I’m standing still And I’m turning the wheel I bought a home I couldn't lose Now I can't leave and I can't choose I go to work take a sleeping pill Obey the rules the lights, until… Mm hmm I’m turning the wheel Yes I’m turning the wheel I’m standing still And I’m turning the wheel Yes I’m turning the wheel I’m turning the wheel I’m standing still And I’m turning the whee

32 Years 02:52
32 years it’s been 32 years Driving down the road I’ve been driving down the road In my juggling clothes Opening my heart I’ve been opening my heart Foot down on the floor With my foot down on the floor In my juggling clothes Then out of the blue I came across you Uh-oh Then out of the blue I came across you Slap boom pow ya-ya-yowee Your humanity my mortality The eternity All I needed was 32 years it’s been 32 years I wonder where to go Now I wonder where to go To keep my heart in tow Opening my eyes need to open up my eyes Try to make some time I will try to slow down time And keep my heart in line Then out of the blue I came across you Uh-oh Then out of the blue I came across you Slap boom pow ya-ya-yowee Slap boom pow ya-ya-yowee Slap boom pow ya-ya-yowee Your humanity all the memories My naivety All I needed was All I needed was And all I needed was coffee

So now you go round saying I’m the bad guy I never thought I’d be the one to blame Guess I didn’t think that you would miss me But what you say upsets me just the same Many things you recollect that I just don’t remember I guess memory is such a funny thing At least I think that yours is so let’s make a nice long list Then you can nod along with me while I sing Like all those times I never said I loved you Kept myself from treating you right I put you down most every day in front of your friends And I slagged you off in front of mine each night I was cruel and unusual in the kitchen and the bedroom Only ever thinking of myself Then after raising up my kids with all that washing and the cooking I found somebody younger and just left you on the shelf Take It Away Mr Guitar.... uh huh Now what have I forgotten? Oh yeah… Let me tell you now I know I was to blame for all the potholes in the road And the weather when it rained on your birthday Climate change is down to me I know that’s my fault too And all the other things that you say The awful things you say I did to you The list is getting longer now it’s useless to deny The awful things you say I did to you The bad things and the sad things that I did to make you cry You want me to admit these things are true Like when I went to the wardrobe cut a hole in all your trousers Burnt your favourite things just for a laugh – haha! I fed you worms and said it was spaghetti And then I drowned your hamster in the bath Maybe you believe that all these things are true Delusion’s not the same as lies they say I’ve moved on now I won’t be looking over my shoulder But I’m still checking my brake cables every day

Sleepyhead 05:03
Well your mother and me have not had an easy life We’ve struggled to get by in so many ways So when you turn your tiny face to us for reassurance The response you get might often be quite vague Or sometimes quite alarming but then soon you’ll know That this life can be such a vale of tears We need to keep you tough to survive as we survived before you It will make more sense to you with each passing year Your mother will soon tire of my abusive behaviour And run off with a man who acts exactly the same Now you’re looking out the window of a flat above a chip shop As the rain dribbles down the rusty pane Lullaby baby sleepy time Mummy will rock you and daddy will sing Wishing you all good things for the future Beautiful sleepyhead boy Now you’re looking at the smiling faces of your friends on a Saturday night If it ever came to trouble you'll know which ones you could fight They'll say they have your back until they need to put you down And when push comes to shove you’ll be ready to watch them drown There’s no guarantee that good things will come so grab them while they’re there And wring the joy from each and every one Cos when you look back the cupboard will be bare One day you might find a reason to get out of bed for a while One bright hope to keep alive you’ll snuff it out yourself before you’re twenty-five Lullaby baby sleepy time Mummy will rock you and daddy will sing Wishing you all good things for the future Beautiful sleepyhead boy And then you’ll run to her she’ll take your anger and try to turn it into love Until the hate spreads through her too till one day she’s had enough Your children will grow up their emotions so natural so strong They’ll fight amongst themselves as the rich ones stand their laughing And to their little ones they’ll sing this song Lullaby baby sleepy time Mummy will rock you and daddy will sing Wishing you all good things for the future Beautiful sleepyhead boy Lullaby baby sleepy time Mummy will rock you and daddy will sing Wishing you all the joy life can bring Beautiful sleepyhead boy

Just Relax 03:32
Hello. Just relax… Imagine you are sitting comfortably Close your eyes Just relax... Feel the chair supporting you The weight of your future Your legs, your arms, your head – sink Let that tension go Let it seep out taking you down Take a slow deep breath In and out Let the tension flow Just relax... You’re feeling heavy and limp If you’re feeling panic push it away If you’re feeling scared push it away Let go of the pain and worry Now you’re feeling heavy and floppy Notice how your body feels, you begin to relax Notice how your body feels, you begin to relax Notice how your body feels, you begin to relax Notice the feeling taking over Just relax... Let your next breath be a little slower Let your next breath be a bit deeper Let your next breath be a little slower Let your next breath be a little slower Let your next breath be a bit deeper Let your next breath … go! Just relax...

Suddenly I crossed your mind And space just changed and time And all roads now they lead to you I can’t leave you behind Run I run and I run and I can’t turn I run and I run and you’re the one I don’t know how I know but Where I run is where to go To be with you To love with you To pray for you To hurt with you Suddenly my time stood still Your face burned on my mind And there is so no going back It’ll always be until Run I run and I run but we’re not one I run and I run and you’re the one I don’t know how I know but Where I run is where to go To be with you To love with you To pray for you To hurt with you Run I run and I run but we’re not one I run and I run and you’re the one I don’t know how I know but Where I run is where to go To be with you To love with you To pray for you To hurt with you

about

OF THE NEW ALBUM THE BAND SAY……

Richard: “Confection is, like all Lizard Brain releases, a mix of genres and ideas. Some themes do, however, seem to run through the album, like lettering through a stick of seaside rock. So what's it all about? We live in a world of lies – those we tell ourselves, and those that are confected to distract and divide us. Almost all of us have to make huge efforts to present our best work, our best selves to the world. As we go through life looking for moments of love and comfort, we sometimes snap wide awake to the hard realities, and we wonder about the multitude of roads not taken. Did we make the right choices? What is the right track? Did we really want to do this? And then when we look at our sugar coated screens we see our “leaders” offering us little treats. There are words that spring to mind: Demagogue. Fantasy. Diversion. Division. I hear all of those things mixed into Confection – hope you all enjoy it.” Rx

Mark: “An assortment of sweet treats – all-sorts, toxic waste, popping candy, after 8, chocolate coins, fruit loops, time out, cherry sours, peanut brittle, flake, and love hearts. Help yourself!”

David: “Been a funny year. If you are looking back at 2020–21 then… this is What We Did On Our Holidays. Or furlough. Check out the video for Featureless Zone and there we are for most of the year in our own small worlds, the world beamed into us. There were times I just had to stop watching the news. And our world beamed out too. I think it made for a different kind of creativity. Please have a listen and tell us what you think.”
